Beyond this interest in pitch, I enjoy making work which requires practice or can be seen as an etude perhaps. With each transfer creating cracks, modifications and compressions which push the music into a frenzy. The piece is based on a very tasteful Finnish translation of a Japanese Tanka poem (by Saigy\u014d) by Tuomas Anhava. <br><br><em>Varjo, varjo<\/em> received the mention award at 10TH INTERNATIONAL MICROTONAL GUITAR COMPETITION. <br><br>Video: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QNVEoXgojxo&amp;feature=youtu.be&amp;themeRefresh=1\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QNVEoXgojxo&amp;feature=youtu.be&amp;themeRefresh=1<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 33%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Folding Song<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>for Lumatone, Kantele &amp; Guitar [22EDO]<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dedicated to Krist\u012bne Tukre and Sebastian Dumitrescu, Folding song is a continuation of my study in creating musical material which is transformed by the physical process of folding. The piece comprises of a series of loops that tesselate over each other, producing melodies, harmonic progressions and polyphony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the work progresses the loops become longer, and as a result, more complicated.<br>The collection is intended to slowly reveal the properties of this special tuning, and, act as etudes for this unconventional instrument set-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The piece is directly inspired by the &#8220;<em>Nine Songs of Yue&#8221;<\/em>, (composed by Jiang Kui [1155-1221]) for the performance of which,&nbsp;<em>Haiyun Yu&nbsp;<\/em>brilliantly created the bespoke 12-string guitar setup.<br>Therefore,&nbsp;<em>&#8220;33 lines&#8221;&nbsp;<\/em>was written for, and is dedicated to Haiyun Yu, in hope of encouraging her to continue the interdimentional-musical investigations she is doing.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Collaborative Works<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Animistic<\/em> <em>Rituals<\/em><\/strong><br><br>A multi year project that saw myself and composer Thorkell Nordal question the semi-cultish, practice of being a classical guitarist.<br>The final work presents as a &#8220;Ritual&#8221; or a sermon in which the player embodies the guitar whilst the guitar transforms from inanimate object to animate actor.<br><br>The piece has been presented in Helsinki and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in 2025.  <br><br>A dramatised video documentation can be found here: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=79hdfmEPcn4\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=79hdfmEPcn4<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Productions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 29%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>mp concert series <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A concert series focusing on quiet, and mostly acoustic scored experimental music in Helsinki. <br><br>The aim of the series is to curate a quiet space for listening and gathering, whilst also inviting areas of discussion and education by the virtue of music.
