Composition
In my compositional practice I have a particular interest in Microtonality, whether it is the “Just” tuning of low harmonics or more experimental approaches with various divisions of the octave. Beyond this interest in pitch, I enjoy making work which requires practice or can be seen as an etude perhaps. Therefore I try to make musical situations in my works where the focus, the game, of playing music can be realised in any situation.
Below is a list of works which use Microtonality from my output:

Varjo, varjo for two Guitars [extended 3-Limit JI]
Varjo, varjo (double shadow) is based on a chord progression which slowly falls apart and transforms as the guitars transfers material from one to the other. With each transfer creating cracks, modifications and compressions which push the music into a frenzy. The piece is based on a very tasteful Finnish translation of a Japanese Tanka poem (by Saigyō) by Tuomas Anhava.
Varjo, varjo received the mention award at 10TH INTERNATIONAL MICROTONAL GUITAR COMPETITION.

Folding Song for Lumatone, Kantele & Guitar [22EDO]
Dedicated to Kristīne Tukre and Sebastian Dumitrescu, Folding song is a continuation of my study in creating musical material which is transformed by the physical process of folding. I call the practice “Scorigami”.
In Folding Song the idea of the piece is to go from static to ecstatic, the three instruments begin separately and gradually converge.

33 Lines [extended 3-Limit JI]
“33 lines” is written for a 12-string acoustic guitar, adapted into 3-limit Just-Intonation. The piece comprises of a series of loops that tesselate over each other, producing melodies, harmonic progressions and polyphony.
As the work progresses the loops become longer, and as a result, more complicated.
The collection is intended to slowly reveal the properties of this special tuning, and, act as etudes for this unconventional instrument set-up.
The piece is directly inspired by the “Nine Songs of Yue”, (composed by Jiang Kui [1155-1221]) for the performance of which, Haiyun Yu brilliantly created the bespoke 12-string guitar setup.
Therefore, “33 lines” was written for, and is dedicated to Haiyun Yu, in hope of encouraging her to continue the interdimentional-musical investigations she is doing.
Collaborative Works
Animistic Rituals
A multi year project that saw myself and composer Thorkell Nordal question the semi-cultish, practice of being a classical guitarist.
The final work presents as a “Ritual” or a sermon in which the player embodies the guitar whilst the guitar transforms from inanimate object to animate actor.
The piece has been presented in Helsinki and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in 2025.

Productions
mp concert series
A concert series focusing on quiet, and mostly acoustic scored experimental music in Helsinki.
The aim of the series is to curate a quiet space for listening and gathering, whilst also inviting areas of discussion and education by the virtue of music. We are connected to musta piste experimental art review, therefore work on the “art-worth-talking-about” ethos that drives the blog.

October Ballads
My stab at experimental folk music, I invited Fredrik Rasten to perform his seminal Six Moving Guitars with a group of local musicians who performed in various constellations in the first half.
Before that a bus transported the audience from Helsinki to SIpoo, with a special soundtrack and poem priming them for what they were about to hear.
I was invited as a guest artist to curate this evening of Sipoon Äänet international festival (11.10.24).
