Ballads Broadcast / Lineaments

In the autumn of 2024 Mark invited Fredrik over to Helsinki for playing a couple of concerts. One of the shows was organized in what was at that point still unnamed space coordinated by Äänen Lumo. The space later became known as “Toinen kerros” (eng. “Second floor” or “Another layer”).

Isthmus is delighted to present here the recordings from that show, which included Mark collaborating together with Simone for their piece “Ballad Broadcast”, and Fredrik performing his 2-part piece “Lineaments”.

almanac for a sanguine solstice II‘ is the elaboration of two synchronised journeys on the 2020 winter solstice, separated by 400 miles on Britain’s east coast.

Songs present on ‘almanac for a sanguine solstice I’ have been arranged for solo instruments/voice, aiming to condense elements of the landscape with the body. Track 9, mimorian, featuring Obakegaku お化け学, brings together the whole journey, manipulating audio from almanac for a sanguine solstice I & II.

Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and Creative Scotland.

almanac for a sanguine solstice I‘ is the documentation of two synchronised journeys on the 2020 winter solstice, separated by 400 miles on Britain’s east coast. Amplified by untrained, fragile voices, Mark and Callum sacrifice different melodies while gradually allowing the influence of their surroundings to control their song.

Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and Creative Scotland.
